On June 20,21, and 22, 1997 the Minnesota Street Rod Association presented their 24th annual "Back to the Fifties" street rod meet. The manly men of the Old Farts Car Club and Hot Rods Online drove through the nights from the Indy Nationals to brave the cold frontier of Minnesota for this spectacular show. 8200 street rods did exactly the same thing and the place was packed. The affair is held on the grounds of the Minnesota State Fair and is like a city onto itself. We spent 4 days and 3 nights there and I want you to know, these people take street rodding seriously. We had a spot slightly off the beaten path, but we did all right, gaining many new members for the O.F.C.C. and meeting many new friends. This street rod meet lasts until 11:00 P.M. and many people stay right on the grounds, so these was quite a ride. We didn't realizethid but this is Minnesota's entire summer, this weekend of June and everybody was out to take advantage of the beautiful weather. This is also the winter headquarters of the Minnesota Kamakaze Mosquito Squadron that was based on a pond behind the OFCC tent and van. We lost 3 members and a small dog to the diving marauders.
Our hats are off to Mike Strusinski, a member of the MSRA and the northern based Old Farts Timing Association, for his hospitality and help during this show. He brought donuts at 6:00 in the morning and accepted UPS shipments at his house, and without him we could not have survived. It was kind of neat because our UPS vehicle delivering T-shirts to the OFCC tent was a chopped, bright yellow, 1940 Ford sedan delivery, a friend of Mikes and a new member of the O.F.C.C.
His name is Rob Juetten and he has owned this car for many years
As you know my favorite car is a 1940 sedan delivery and I saw many fine ones at the two show we went to on this trip.
Ah, someday.....
Now on with the show and we will be off to the Des Moines, IA and the Medina, OH events of the GoodGuys organization.
